She is also a Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Ranpur constituency in Nayagarh district. Known for her long political journey and persistence, she achieved a major victory in the 2024 Odisha Assembly elections after multiple previous attempts.
Surama Padhy has also served as a Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Cooperation in the Odisha government during the BJP–BJD alliance period.
Early Life & Education
Surama Padhy was born on 29 December 1960 in Raj-Ranpur, Odisha.
She completed:
Master of Arts (MA) in 1982 from Ravenshaw College (affiliated with Utkal University)
Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
By profession, she is an advocate and later transitioned into active politics.
She is married to Bipin Bihari Padhy, a chartered accountant, and has two children.
